Most of the
professional interior designers follow the below golden rules for designing and choosing the sofa.
Right Size
When deciding on the size of the sofa, you need to take into consideration a variety of aspects. For example, look at the whole room and figure out how much space are you willing to let the sofa occupy and whether or not there are other pieces of furniture that you need to include there. Perhaps you’d also like to have a couch in the room or a coffee table.
Style
There are so many options that are available in the market. One can choose from a loveseat, lounge, tuxedo, camelback and Knole, and sectional sofas. If the house has a traditional appeal to it, go for the loveseat, camelback or lounge style sofas, while if your home has a modern outlook, choose tuxedo, Knole, or sectional style sofas.
Cushions
Remember that what's inside a sofa is just as important as what's used on the outside. Feather-filled cushions are high on comfort but they will need regular plumping, while foam or fibre fillings may flatten out and lose their shape over time. A combination of feather and foam as 'feathers give the squish while the foam provides structure'. A good combination is back cushions filled with feathers and seat cushions filled with foam or fibre.
Colour
The sofa itself shouldn’t be the center of attention in the living room. So don’t try to make it stand out more than it has to by choosing a very bold colour. Also, trendy patterns are not a great option either. Pattern and colour should come from the throw pillows or other accent elements.
